Meet the Artist: Britt van der Meijden

    Where’d it all start?

I somehow grew up with a camera in my hands. Honestly not sure who put it there as none of my parents, sisters, or brothers work in an artistic genre. But somehow I have been carrying a camera around since I can remember. I don’t think I have gone a day without taking a picture.

Favorite photo you’ve taken and why?

Honestly, I have a favorite new photo every month! This month it's this analog picture that I took in Las Palmas. Two lovers separated from the crowd, professional sun tanners baking on the beach - I love this vibe.

Where do you feel the most inspired?

I somehow get inspired everywhere I go, there are pictures and stories to be seen in everything, often it’s the smallest things that when shot in a certain way can tell a great story. I travel a lot which gives me many
opportunities to see a lot of beautiful places, but right now I am head over heels in love with Italy. So much hidden beauty and inspiration to be found here.

What advice do you wish you could give your younger self?

Sounds cliché, but follow your heart and trust the process of growth in life. I knew I was always artistic but I wasn’t sure how to let my artistic feelings flow, whether it was in painting, drawing, photography, or journalism.. but we need to let the journey happen. Try different things and keep going. Things will eventually unfold themselves and opportunities arise that will make you grow!

    Favorite photographer or artistic inspiration?

I get a lot of my artistic inspiration from movies, one of my favorite directors is Paolo Sorrentino.

Favorite book, TV show, or movie from the past year?

Let’s keep the Italian vibes going, shall we! The movie The Hand of God is an absolute masterpiece. Every scene in this movie is photographic art.

Last meal on earth? (food, setting, people, etc.)

Hands down a freshly made Pasta Pomodoro made by la nonna! Just imagine sitting at a long table on the Amalfi coast having lunch with the whole family and lots of friends, drinking local wines & fresh pasta! Dreamy!
