Gary Andrew Clarke is an artist based in Manchester, England. His work has been exhibited in the UK, Europe & the US, and is held in private collections across the world. More recently, two works were used by The Strokes for their official gig posters for Berlin & Paris.
He studied graphic design in the late 80s and subsequently spent many years working within the music industry for various major labels and several smaller UK based independent record labels.
His artwork plays with the push and pull of geometry and colour. These often have deliberate directional contradictions, and sometimes suggest visual puns. As a child of the naively futuristic early 1970s, his work is often influenced by the ‘hard-edge’ and ‘geometric abstraction’ art from the late 60s and early 70s. It’s an attempt to create art that might be on the walls in Logan’s Run or other dystopian sci-fi of the period.
