Meet the Artist: Bethany Young

Meet the Artist: Bethany Young

  1. Where’d it all start?

My parents gave me my first camera (A Polaroid, because 80's baby!) for Christmas when I was four years old, and I remember going outside to photograph the sky - a little foreshadowing perhaps? In my senior year of college I took a black and white film photography class which made me realize my love for photography ran deep. I was on my way to law school but decided I couldn’t resist pursuing photography, and the rest is history. I jump on planes or hit the road as often as possible to create new art because I love inspiring joy, and it truly fills my heart all the way up knowing my pieces are finding homes on beautiful walls across the world.

  1. Favorite photo you've taken and why?

This is like asking me to pick a favorite child! Right now, I’d have to say my favorite photo I’ve taken is of the starry New Mexico sky over Pedernal Mountain - Georgia O’Keeffe’s favorite mountain.

  1. Where do you want to shoot next?

I had to cancel a big Europe trip because of Covid, so I’m excited to get back over there as soon as possible. I’ll be focusing on London, rural Italy and France. Also can't wait to get out to White Sands National Park.

  1. Craziest moment you've had while shooting or traveling for a shoot?

Swimming with sharks off the coast of Hawaii

  1. Favorite photographer or artistic inspiration?

Annie Leibovitz is my favorite photographer

  1. Favorite book, TV show, or movie from the past year?

I May Destroy You, Schitt’s Creek, Promising Young Woman, I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, Killers of the Flower Moon

  1. Last meal on earth? (food, setting, people, etc.)

California burrito, chips and queso, lime Topo Chico, Oaxaca Old Fashioned, and lemon sorbet with my closest friends and family during golden hour on the cliffs of Big Sur.
